According to company press release, the project has been implemented in compliance with the government’s Swachh Bharat Mission. The pilot has already been implemented at nearly 36 Reliance Retail outlets based in metro cities Delhi and Mumbai. The initiative will be expanded to cover 200 stores across the nation by 2025. The pilot phase targets to collect 500,000 PET bottles every year.
As part of the initiative, the partnership will install reverse vending machines (RVMs) and collection bins in stores, thus providing consumers an easy method to get rid of their used PET bottles. The PET bottles thus collected will be responsibly recycled by Reliance Industries. The customers who drop their used PET bottles will be rewarded with attractive discounts on Coca-Cola India products.
The new initiative promises to boost collection, recycling and reuse of used PET bottles, thereby helping to transform waste into valuable resources.
