SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Irving, Texas-headquartered Commercial Metals Company (CMC) published its sustainability report for 2019 and 2020. The report highlights the company’s industry-leading environmental performance and also sets new sustainability goals for 2030.
According to the report, it recycled more than 95% of process water and recycled almost 99% of EAF dust. CMC also achieved an important milestone by recycling 100% slag. The company recycled a total of nearly 9 million tons of scrap metal. It also achieved 98% recycled content in finished products.
CMC targets to reduce its scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions intensity by 20% by 2030, compared with 2019 baseline. The other goals include increasing the percent renewable energy use by 12%, reduce its energy consumption by 5% and reducinmg the water consumption by 8%, all compared with 2019 baseline.
Barbara R. Smith, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer noted that the company has been able to significantly improve its operational and financial performance since the publication of its previous sustainability report in 2018. The new goals set for 2030 demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to its people, customers, communities and environment.
