Canfor Southern Pine Invests $40 Million to Upgrade Camden Sawmill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Canfor Southern Pine has announced investment of $40 million to upgrade its existing sawmill facility in Camden, Kershaw County, South Carolina. The leading integrated forest products company has been operating the Camden sawmill facility since 1983. The expansion works are expected to begin this year and is expected to get completed before end-2019.

The capital investment is expected to increase the mill capacity by 50%, thereby making it the company’s highest-producing facility in the Southern U.S. The investment will also bring about significant additions to the safety and quality of mill operations. As part of the expansion, Canfor Southern Pine has decided to install a new planer mill. In addition, it will also install new equipment throughout the sawmilling operation so as to boost production capacity from the mill, said the company press release.

Fred Stimpson, President, Canfor Southern Pine noted that the commitment of both the state and local governments played a key role in approving the major investment plan. Meantime, Keith McGregor, Vice President of U.S. Operations (East) stated that the investment plan reiterates the company’s ongoing commitment to one of its top-performing mills. The investment will help the Camden plant to continue to remain as one of the significant employers of the region, offering well-paid jobs and other benefits to communities.
