SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Canfor Corporation announced that it has completed acquisition of El Dorado lumber manufacturing facility in Union County, Arkansas from Resolute El Dorado Inc., an affiliate of Domtar Corporation. The $73 million acquisition, earlier announced in May this year, offers complementary geographic fit with Canfor’s existing operations in the region.
The acquired facility, which manufactures dimensional lumber and specialty wood products, has been renamed as the Iron Mountain sawmill. The vertical integration of the sawmill facility, with its two glulam plants, is expected to create tremendous operational synergies with Canfor’s existing regional facilities. The company plans to invest additional $50 million in upgrades, after which the production capacity will touch 175 million board feet per year, said the company press release.
Commenting on the important milestone, Lee Goodloe, President, Canfor Southern Pine noted that the acquisition, together with the intended investment and expansion of the mill, is a strategic opportunity for the company. It will expand the depth and breadth of its Arkansas manufacturing capabilities and equip the company to provide its customers with a more comprehensive product offering, he added.
