SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): BDSV- the German trade association that represents scrap metal recycling companies, in association with two other trade associations, has called for prioritization of scrap recycling sector.
The joint statement issued by BDSV in partnership with the Association of German Metal Dealers (VDM) and the Federal Association of German Waste Management, Water and Raw Materials Management (BDE) stated that elected leaders should do the needful to make metals recycling a circular economy priority.
The associations pointed out the importance of recycled ferrous and nonferrous metals for the circular economy and national economy. The recycling of metals not only secures raw materials, but also leads to significant savings of energy and carbon dioxide emissions. The sector is a key for Germany and the European Union for achieving its climate policy goals, they noted.
BDSV, along with other associations, highlighted the importance of promoting resource-efficient recycling and environmental technologies. The strict implementation of recyclability norms at design stage would ensure that products reach recyclers at the end of their useful life. The government should ensure that aluminum, copper and steel scrap are increasingly used in manufacture of new products.
