SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Australian-American packaging company Amcor plc, in partnership with 35 consumer goods companies, announced new initiatives aimed at significantly reducing plastic waste and boost sustainability efforts. Incidentally, the company aims to achieve 100% recyclable packaging by 2025.
The partnership proposes two new design rules to deliver packaging that is easier and economically viable for recycling. The first rule suggests removal of colouring pigments and labelling that tend to badly impact recycling rates. The second design aims to remove all problematic materials for recyclers from all forms of plastic packaging. The implementation of the above rules will make recycling easier, cheaper and more efficient, the partner companies noted.

Furthermore, they will enhance the value of PET bottle recycling and tackle waste leakage.
In addition, APR called upon the governments to work with industry to ensure that proper Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes are in place to boost sustainability and recyclability efforts by the industry.
