SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The ALPLA Group announced opening of new high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic recycling plant in Toluca, Mexico. Initially, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 15,000 tonnes of recycled HDPE. By mid-2022, it plans to increase the capacity to 30,000 tonnes.
The inauguration ceremony of the new state-of-the-art recycling plant in the central Mexican State of Mexico was held on 10th November, 2021. The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests including the Austrian ambassador to Mexico, Elisabeth Kehrer, and the governor of the State of México, Alfredo del Mazo Maza.
ALPA Group had announced construction of the plant in September last year. It took a little more than a year for the construction to get completed. The plant, built at an investment of 20 million euros, has already created around 70 new jobs. The regranulate from the plant will be mainly used for the production of non-food packaging such as personal care products and household cleaning agents.
Georg Lasser, Head of Corporate Recycling, ALPLA Group noted that the company is delighted to play an important part in implementing a circular economy in Mexico. The new facility will help promote plastics collection and development of regional recycling infrastructure, he added.
