Alcoa's Massena, New York Facility Received ASI Certification

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based Alcoa Corporation announced that its Massena, New York facility achieved provisional certification from the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) for its smelter and casthouse. This brings Alcoa’s total number of facilities across the globe certified to ASI standards to 16.

Commenting on the achievement, John Slaven, Alcoa’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer stated that earning certifications from ASI is in alignment with the company’s vision to reinvent the aluminum industry for a sustainable future. The recognition for Massena is welcome news for the facility’s 120 years of continual production. Also, he highlighted the important work done by its employees.

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI congratulated Alcoa on Massena’s achievements for the aluminum sector and the historical industrial development it has brought to the region. The certification is a demonstration of the commitment shown by the facility in innovating to meet new challenges, he added.

The final certification will be provided upon completion of on-site evaluation by an ASI accredited auditor, which has not been possible due to travel delays in connection with Covid-19 pandemic.
