SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Alcoa Corporation issued its 2023 Sustainability Report. The report outlines the progress made by the company in the efforts to achieve its previously state long-term sustainability goals during the previous year.
According to the report, the company maintained its commitment to safety with zero fatalities. It reported increase in overall use of renewable electricity to 87%, thus surpassing the goal to source 85% of the electricity requirements for its global smelting portfolio from renewable sources by 2025. The company reported 2.2% dip in carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in 2023, in comparison with 2022.

The report disclosed performance against the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) for facilities with the highest potential consequences. Also, the female representation in the workforce increased to 19.1%, higher by 3.35% from the year before.The company issued its first Modern Slavery Statement. In addition, Alcoa implemented a new Supplier Site Collaboration program during the previous year, the report said.
William F. Oplinger, President and CEO, Alcoa, in a letter to stakeholders, said that the company expects excellence in everything it does, including its relentless focus on safety and its efforts toward achieving the sustainability targets.
