SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to the American Iron and Steel Institute's (AISI) monthly figures, steel shipments in September of this year showed a little decline from the same month the previous year. Additionally, shipments showed a decrease from the previous month.
In September 2024, the steel mills shipped 7.083 million net tons, according to AISI data. Compared to the shipments of 7.170 million net tons in the same month last year, this represents a 1.2% decrease. Additionally, there was a little decrease in shipments throughout the month, down 2.90% from the prior month. It should be mentioned that in August of this year, the shipments were 7.293 million net tons.

Over the first nine months of the year, the total shipments by domestic steel mills in the United States came to 65.296 million net tons. When compared to the same period last year, this represents a little decrease of 3.6%. Between January and September of 2023, these mills shipped 67.734 million net tons of steel.
The report compares the shipment volumes of different steel products for the first nine months of 2024 from year to year. During this time, exports of corrosion-resistant sheet decreased by over 1% compared to the prior year. Hot rolled sheet shipments also decreased by 5%. Meanwhile, compared to the first nine months of 2023, cold rolled sheet exports increased by 4% year over year, according to AISI.
