SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to the American Iron and Steel Institute's (AISI) most recent weekly domestic production figures, U.S. weekly raw steel production decreased by 1.3% for the week ending January 4, 2025. This week is compared to the same week last year.
During the week, the United States produced 1.635 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel. The utilization rate of the domestic mill capacities was 73.6%. It is important to keep in mind that output reached 1.656 million NT during the same week last year, with a marginally higher capacity utilization rate of 73.7%.

Additionally, crude steel production dropped by a meager 1.4% from the previous week. The previous week, ending on December 28, 2024, produced 1.658 million NT with a capability utilization rate of 74.7%.
With 693,000 net tons, the Southern region produced the most. 544,000 net tons were generated during the week in the Great Lakes region. North East-124, Midwest-220, and Western-54 are the other regions' productions (in thousand net tons).
As of January 4, 2025, the adjusted year-to-date output was 1.635 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 73.6%. This represents a 1.3% decrease from the 1.656 million net tons of production and 73.7% capacity utilization rate recorded during the same period in 2024.
