AISI Applauded House Passage of Water Resources Bill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) applauded passage of the Water Resources Bill by the House of Representatives.

Following extensive talks to reconcile the two separate versions of the law that were enacted by the House and Senate earlier this year, the legislation is the final form of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). Key investments in vital U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water infrastructure projects, such as the building and upkeep of ports, inland waterways, locks, and dams nationwide, are called for under the Act.

The WRDA's modified project cost-share mechanism will make it easier to expedite the building of significant inland navigation projects, according to Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO of AISI. He pointed out that the Institute's member businesses mostly depend on inland waterways, seaports, locks, and dams to get raw materials to their facilities and completed goods to consumers in the marketplace.

Since S. 4367, the Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA 2024), is essential to the domestic steel industry's economic competitiveness, AISI wrote to the members of the U.S. House of Representatives House staff urging them to vote in favor of it when it is discussed on the House floor this week.
