SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The most current weekly domestic production data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) shows a 2.8% decline in U.S. weekly raw steel production for the week ending December 28, 2024. This is in comparison with the same week the previous year.
The United States produced 1.658 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel during the week. The domestic mill capabilities were utilized at a rate of 74.7%. It is crucial to remember that, with a slightly lower capacity utilization rate of 74.2%, output reached 1.705 million NT during the same week last year.

The production of crude steel also decreased by a slight 1.9% from the week before. With a capability utilization rate of 76.1%, 1.690 million NT were produced in the preceding week, which ended on December 21, 2024.
The Southern region produced the most, with 682,000 net tons. The Great Lakes area produced 563,000 net tons during the week. The productions (in thousand net tons) for the other regions are North East-131, Midwest-223, and Western-59.
With a capability utilization rate of 75.6%, the adjusted year-to-date output as of December 28, 2024, was 87.049 million net tons. Compared to the 89.243 million net tons of production and 76.0% capacity utilization rate noted during the same period in 2023, this indicates a 2.5% decline.
