AISI: U.S. Raw Steel Output Recorded Y-o-Y Decline

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In the week ending April 12, 2025, U.S. weekly raw steel production fell by about 0.4%, according to the most current weekly domestic production data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). This was based on a comparison between this week and the same week last year.

The United States produced 1.689 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel during the week. 75.2% of the domestic mill's capacity was being used. Recall that production reached 1.695 million NT in the same week last year, with a little higher capacity utilization rate of 76.3%.

The production for the week ending April 12, 2025, was almost 2.0% more than the previous week, which ended on April 5, 2025, when crude steel output totaled 1.656 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 74.4%.

The Southern region produced the most, with 697,000 net tons. The Great Lakes region produced 549,000 net tons during the week. The productions (in thousand net tons) of the other regions are North East-127, Midwest-248, and Western-68.

As of April 12, 2025, the adjusted year-to-date output was 24.213 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 74.6%. This represents a 1.3% decrease from the same time in 2024, when production was 24.534 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 75.9%.
