SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) published the domestic raw steel production data for the most recent week.
In accordance with the weekly data, the U.S. domestic raw steel production totalled 1.240 million net tons in the week ending on June 27, 2020. This compares with the production of 1.863 million net tons in the corresponding week a year before and 1.224 million net tons during the prior week. The weekly output was down substantially by 33.4% over the year, whereas it edged higher slightly by 1.3% from the previous week.

The U.S. steel mill capability utilization rate was 55.4% in the week ending on June 27, 2020, slightly higher from 54.6% in the prior week and notably lower when matched with 80.1% in the year-ago week.
The raw steel production tonnage for the year-to-date period through June 27, 2020 totalled 39.165 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 67.0%. This is upon comparison with the production of 48.313 million net tons at a capacity utilization rate of 81.2% during the similar year-to-date period in 2019.
The leading raw steel producer was the Southern region, whose output totalled 516,000 net tons. The production by other regions, in thousand net tons, is as follows: North East (123), Great Lakes (409), Midwest (132) and Western (60).
