AF&PA: 94% Americans Have Access to Paper Recycling Programs

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) has published the findings presented in the 2021 Access to Recycling Study, which says that vast majority of the Americans have access to a community paper recycling program. The study demonstrates the commitment by the paper and wood products industry in advancing paper recycling’s success.

According to the study, nearly 94% of the U.S. population has access to community recycling programs for paper. Also, around 79% Americans have access to residential curbside programs, thus making it an efficient and effective way to recycle paper at home. The access to curbside programs have increased marginally by 1%, compared with the results of the 2014 study.

The paper products that are widely accepted for recycling include cardboard, pizza boxes, mail, office paper, magazines, paper bags, newspapers, liquid packaging cartons and paperboard boxes with/without poly coating. These products have community access rate of 60% or more. Paper continues to be one of the most recycled materials in the U.S., AF&PA said.
