What Are Memory Chips?
Memory Chips are one among the several valuable components that are generated while scrapping an old computer system. Although they are most commonly found in Computers, they are also found in other devices such as Servers, Printers and Laptops.
Random Access Memory (RAM) Chips are long rectangular ‘mini circuit boards’ that consists of numerous memory chips. A single computer may contain anywhere between 1 and 8 memory modules like this. Older RAM modules are bulkier when compared with the sleek RAM chips of today.
Memory Chips Price
The primary ingredient in Memory Chips is the plastic. However the printed circuit boards (PCBs) and the integrated circuit (IC) chips on them contains trivial amounts of copper, gold, silver and palladium. Most scrap yards buy Memory Chips to recover precious metals and pay for your scrap by weight. Please note that the price mainly depends on the current market price of precious metals. It may take approximately 20-25 Memory Chips, depending on its size, to make up 1 lb.
The modules appear small in size and light in weight. However, the large number of gold-plated fingers and precious metal found in chips on the modules make it extremely valuable. Most modules use gold fingers to solder the chips to the board. The yellow color of the tip identifies gold soldering. Boards also use Tin for soldering, which will be identified by the silver color of tips. A third category of chips have aluminum plates on them. The seller is advised to classify the various chips carefully, as the pricing varies considerably among various types. In general, the ones with aluminum plates need to be separated out as they paid much lesser when compared with others.
