Novelis Renewed Commitment to Boost Sustainable Practices

Novelis has made significant progress in energy initiatives over the last few years by using more renewable energy sources.

Its collection centers around Brazil now run on clean, renewable energy thanks to the installation of photovoltaic modules on their rooftops. As a result, energy use has been decreased.

Up to 40% of the electricity consumed at Statkraft's Nachterstedt Recycling and Nachterstedt Rolling operations in Germany will be covered by the green Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the company. About 1,450 tons of carbon emissions will be cut yearly by the $2.4 million onsite solar park investment at its Pieve factory in Italy.

Novelis has tested hydrogen on an industrial scale in a UK plant's aluminum recycling furnace, demonstrating the potential to lessen the industry's dependency on fossil fuels.

The company wants to reach 75% recycled material in its products by the end of this decade as part of the Novelis 3x30 strategy.
