AISI: U.S. Steel Shipments in August Up from the Prior Month

Throughout the first eight months of the year, the combined shipments made by domestic steel mills in the United States amounted to 58.213 million net tons.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to the American Iron and Steel Institute's (AISI) monthly figures, there appears to have been a decrease in steel shipments in August of this year compared to the same month last year. Nonetheless, there was a little increase in shipments from the previous month.

In August 2024, the steel mills shipped 7.293 million net tons, according to AISI data. When compared to the shipments of 7.581 million net tons in the same month last year, this represents a little decrease of 3.8%. On the other hand, there was a slight increase in shipments during the month of 1.8% over the previous month. It is important to remember that as of July of this year, exports had only reached 7.161 million net tons.

Throughout the first eight months of the year, the combined shipments made by domestic steel mills in the United States amounted to 58.213 million net tons. Comparing this to the same period last year, there has been a slight decrease of 3.9%. From January to August of 2023, these mills shipped a total of 60.564 million net tons of steel.

From January to August of this year, exports of corrosion-resistant sheet decreased by over 2% compared to the prior year. Hot rolled sheet shipments also decreased by 5%. In the meantime, AISI reported that cold rolled sheet exports increased year over year by 4% when compared to the first eight months of 2023.
