AISI: U.S. Domestic Raw Steel Output Saw Modest Rise

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totaled 1.772 million net tons (NT).

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded a modest increase of 4.8% during the week ending on September 7, 2024, upon comparison with the corresponding week a year before. This is in relation to the American Iron and Steel Institute's (AISI) most recent weekly domestic output data.

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totaled 1.772 million net tons (NT). The percentage of domestic mill capabilities utilized was 79.8%.  It is crucial to keep in mind that production reached 1.691 million NT during the same week last year, albeit at a lower capacity utilization rate of 74.4%.

Also, the weekly crude steel production recorded a marginal increase of 0.7% when compared with the previous week. The production was 1.760 million NT during the week ended August 31, 2024, with a capability utilization rate of 79.2%.

The Southern region was the highest producer, with 767,000 net tons produced. The Great Lakes region generated 596,000 net tons during the course of the week. The production (in thousand net tons) of the remaining regions are as follows: Midwest: 215; North East: 128; and West: 66.

The adjusted year-to-date production totaled 61.110 million net tons through September 7, 2024, at a capacity utilization rate of 76.7%. This is down by 1.80% upon comparison with the production of 62.251 million net tons and the capacity utilization rate of 76.9% in the corresponding year-to-date period in 2023.
