Alberta’s Electronics Recycling Pilot Will Now be a Permanent Program

By doing so, the government aims to achieve the most comprehensive provincial recycling system in entire Canada.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Alberta government announced major expansion to its recycling program. The provincial government plans to recycle over 500 additional electronic items starting next year. Also, the province targets to develop provincial recycling programs for solar panels, electric vehicle batteries and wind turbine components. By doing so, the government aims to achieve the most comprehensive provincial recycling system in entire Canada.

Since 2020, the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA) has been running an Electronics Recycling Pilot Program in the province, helping residents recycle computer equipment and televisions. Starting April next year, the pilot will become permanent, thus enabling residents to recycle more electronic items including power tools, lawn and garden equipment, small appliances, cell phones, telephones, audio/video devices, musical instruments, video game equipment and toys.

The provincial government, in collaboration with ARMA, will hold consultations with experts and industry partners on setting up a permanent renewable energy recycling program for the entire province. The consultations will cover policies and programs to promote recycling of solar panels, wind turbines and EV batteries.
