Oceana Canada Poll Revealed Overwhelming Support to Single-Use Plastics Ban

The recent poll commissioned by Oceana Canada and carried out by Abacus Data suggested that almost 82% of the Canadian population are in support of the ongoing ban on single-use plastics, including checkout bags, six-pack rings, straws, takeout containers, and cutlery.

The respondents expressed deep concerns over the health impacts of plastics.

Missoula Residents Eye Single-Use Plastic Ban

The survey results indicate that 84% of women and 80% of men supported the ban on single-use plastics. The support was high across all regions of the country, with 92% of Quebec residents extending support to the ban. The support from residents belonging to Alberta stood at 72%. Almost 82% of the people over the age of 60 and 85% of those under 30 years of age are highly concerned about the health impacts of plastics. In general, 85% of women and 79% of men are concerned about the health impacts caused by plastics.

Anthony Merante, Senior Plastics Campaigner, Oceana Canada noted that the citizens from coast to coast to coast have adapted to the ban on single-use plastics, which has delivered notable benefits to communities. The government needs to come up with serious and practical action to reduce waste, Merante added.

Oceana Canada called upon the Canadian government as well as all political parties to prioritize on the agenda of effectively tackling plastic pollution.
