The grant, authorized under the Inflation Reduction Act, aims to help in documenting emissions intensity of construction materials including steel. It will help the team develop life cycle inventory and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) tools, so as to ensure a more efficient and seamless reporting process. In addition, it will assist the group’s efforts to create an EPD repository and also make necessary updates to the steel Product Category Rules for carbon emissions reporting.

Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI noted that AISI is proud to be part of the team that develops tools that highlight American steel’s sustainability and set a new standard for transparency in steel manufacturing. The initiative will help in creation of a comprehensive database for better reporting purpose, he added.
