Kaiser Aluminum Announced Closure of Sherman Extrusion Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kaiser Aluminum announced closure of its Sherman, Texas facility after several years of operation. The aluminum extrusion facility has been an integral part of Sherman’s industrial landscape for decades.
In a statement issued, the company noted that the difficult decision to close the facility was taken after the annual strategic review of its facilities and the end markets served by it. The closure is not due to any strategy change in the business, but is purely based on challenges and business realities specific to that business, said Anne McGuiness, a company representative.

As per reports, Kaiser Aluminum plans to stop production at the facility by the end of this month. The customer orders will be fulfilled at Kaiser’s other locations. It is yet to make any decision on the long term plans for the facility. Meantime, the company will continue to work with nearly 75 affected employees at the Sherman facility for termination benefit package, so as to minimize the impact on them.
Texoma Workforce Solutions observed that the proposed new industrial projects present opportunities for affected employees of Kaiser. It plans to host a job fair at Kaiser before production ends on June 30th. The company too has offered to provide necessary assistance to its employees in finding new jobs.
