Smurfit Kappa to Acquire Bulgarian Bag-in-Box Packaging Plant

The company is a leader among Bag-in-Box solutions providers in the European region.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European sustainable packaging solutions provider Smurfit Kappa announced that it has entered into an agreement towards acquisition of Artemis Ltd., a Bag-in-Box packaging plant located in Shumen, Bulgaria.

The acquisition will help Smurfit Kappa to expand its presence and customer base in the Eastern European region. Furthermore, it will significantly boost the company’s unique product portfolio and innovation capabilities in the bag-in-box sector. Artemis will now join Smurfit Kappa’s network of European Bag-in-Box operations, the company press release noted.

Commenting on the transaction, Massimiliano Bianchi, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box noted that the strategic acquisition is expected to boost the company’s growth in the European market and expanding its reach in the eastern regions. The planned additional investments in the plant will ensure high-quality service and better product quality, Bianchi added.
