SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa announced investment of €54 million at its Alicante, Spain Ibi bag-in-box plant. The proposed investment is aimed at doubling the plant’s capacity.
The investment will strengthen the plant’s operations and boost its product portfolio. It promises to deliver enhanced waste management systems and significant savings in energy consumption.

Commenting on the investment, Saverio Mayer, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Europe said that the investment demonstrates its commitment to the Bag-in-Box division and is in line with the company’s multi-country expansion plan. It must be noted that Smurfit Kappa has invested approximately €90 million in the Ibi plant over the past ten years.
Meantime, Pascual Martínez, General Manager of the Smurfit Kappa Ibi plant noted that the investment will take the Ibi plant to the next level and create as many as 200 jobs for the local economy. The plant is set to embark on its next chapter of success, he added.
The bag-in-box plant produces a wide range of products for wine, dairy products, liquid eggs, cooking oils and water. The products, made from corrugated cardboard, has an outer box that provides exceptional protection during transit. They are designed in such a way as to provide extended shelf life to liquid or semi-liquid food and industrial products.
