AISI looks forward to continue working with the administration on these issues, he said.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has issued a statement in response to the proclamation by the White House, by which tariff-rate quotas (TRQs) on steel imports from the European Union (EU) has been extended for additional two-year period until 31st December, 2025.

Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI, in a statement, welcomed the Biden administration’s action to extend the TRQs on EU steel for two years in order to allow additional time for negotiations on the proposed Global Arrangement on Sustainable Steel and Aluminum. It extended strong support to the administration’s efforts to establish new mechanisms to address effectively global non-market excess capacity in steel and the higher carbon intensity of imported steel. AISI looks forward to continue working with the administration on these issues, he said.
During the past 2 years, the United States and the EU have made substantial progress to identify the sources of non-market excess capacity and the actions needed to address distortions resulting from that non-market excess capacity. These issues have remained critical to the future of both the U.S. and EU steel industries.
