SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) released revised year-to-date 2023 steel shipments data as of October 2023.
According to previously released data by the Institute, the steel mills shipped 7.346 million net tons in October 2023. This is modestly higher by 1.9% upon comparison with the shipments of 7.210 million net tons in the same month a year before. At the same time, the shipments during the month witnessed modest increase by 1.3% from the previous month. It must be noted that the shipments had totalled 7.253 million net tons in September this year.

As per revised data, the cumulative shipments by U.S. domestic steel mills totalled 75.080 million net tons during the initial ten months of the current year. This is marginally down by 0.80% when matched with the corresponding period a year before. The steel shipments by these mills had totalled 75.675 million net tons during January to October in 2022.
The revised report provides year-on-year comparison of shipment volumes of various steel products during the first ten months of 2023. The shipments of hot rolled sheet surged the most, rising by 12% year-on-year. The shipments of cold rolled sheets too were up by 2% when compared with the first ten months of 2022. Also, corrosion resistant sheets recorded 1% jump in shipments over the initial ten-month period.
