Malaysia Partnered with Ocean Cleanup in Fight Against River Plastic Waste

The Memorandum marks another important step forward in The Ocean Cleanup’s mission to get rid of plastics in the oceans.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Ocean Cleanup- the leading international non-profit project has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Government of to carry out joint efforts to tackle river plastic waste in Malaysia.

The two parties have agreed to strengthen their collaboration on reducing plastic pollution in rivers in Malaysia. The Memorandum was signed by Dr. Ching Thoo a/l Kim, Secretary General of the Malaysian Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change and Boyan Slat, Founder & CEO of The Ocean Cleanup in the presence of His Excellency Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia.

The Memorandum marks another important step forward in The Ocean Cleanup’s mission to get rid of plastics in the oceans. Furthermore, it demonstrates the dedication of the country’s government to fight pollution and to provide a cleaner and healthier environment for its citizens.

Boyan Slat, Founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup noted that the most efficient way toclean the oceans and coastlines is to prevent plastic pollution leaking into the seas from rivers. He hoped that other countries take inspiration from what is being done in Malaysia.
