worldsteel Declared Winners of 14th Steelie Awards
The awards are given away in six categories.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced winners of 14th edition of Steelie Awards. The awards recognize member companies for their exemplary contribution to the steel industry over the period of past one year. The awards are given away in six categories.
HBIS Group Co. Ltd.’s unique coke oven gas zero-reforming DRI process combined with EAF was selected as the winner of ‘Excellence in low-carbon steel production’ category. The ‘Innovation of the year’ award was won by United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) for developing high-strength, high-formable, lean, single-phase, nano-precipitation strengthened sheet steel with minimum tensile strength to be used in automotive applications.
The winner of the ‘Excellence in Sustainability’ award was POSCO for successfully demonstrating reduction of methane emissions by using blast furnace slag in rice farming. Also, CITIC Pacific Special Steel Group Co., Ltd emerged as the winner of ‘Excellence in Life Cycle Assessment’ award.
Ternium’s continuous casting simulator using virtual reality won the ‘Excellence in education and training’ award. Gerdau S.A. was announced as the winner of ‘Excellence in communications programmes’.
