Alcoa Completed New Aluminum Recycling Furnace
The new furnace was built in collaboration with German metals trader MMG Aluminum.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-headquartered leading aluminum producer, Alcoa, announced completion of a new aluminum recycling furnace at its Mosjoen, Norway plant. This is considered as the firm’s largest investment in recycling infrastructure until date.
The new furnace was built in collaboration with German metals trader MMG Aluminum. In addition to saving energy costs significantly, the furnace will continue the objective of the infinite recyclability of aluminum.
The furnace will use aluminium chips and shavings compressed into briquettes supplied by MMG Aluminium as feedstock, which in turn will be melted into aluminum, to be used in various low-carbon aluminium and aluminium alloy products produced at the plant. Especially, the aluminum from the new induction furnace will be used in manufacturing Alcoa’s Sustana line of low-carbon aluminum products.
Alcoa noted that the new recycling furnace will help the company to cut its carbon emissions by approximately 4,400 metric tons per annum.
The press release by MMG Aluminum noted that the new recycling furnace is the product of its long and lucrative partnership with Alcoa. The company sees Alcoa as the right partner for this project, said Guenter Strobel, Founder and CEO, MMG Aluminium.
