The project had received a funding of nearly $5 million from the NSW Government’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The $45 million world class PET recycling plant in Albury-Wodonga is expected to substantially reduce plastic waste in Australia. The largest such plant in the country is capable of recycling the equivalent of approximately 1 billion PET bottles every year.
The news release said that competitors in the beverage market- Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) and Asahi Beverages have joined hands for this joint venture, which is also supported by Pact Group and Cleanaway Waste Management Ltd. The plant is expected to provide nearly 40 full-time jobs. It must be noted that it had generated hundreds of jobs during the construction phase.

The plant will recycle around 30,000 tonnes of PET per annum to produce recycled raw materials, which in turn will be used in the manufacture of new beverage bottles and other food and beverage packaging.
The joint venture is currently building a second PET plastic recycling facility in west Melbourne, which will also have more or less the same capacity. The construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in April this year, with completion expected by 2023.
