Smurfit Kappa Launched New Sustainable Packaging Solution for Fast Food

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa, in collaboration with independent Packaging Consultant Juozas Baranauskas, has developed a new, sustainable packaging solution for fast food. This is part of its Better Planet Packaging portfolio of products, which offer sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic solutions.

The Twin Kraft Grease Guard MB12 packaging solution was created for the leading fast-food restaurant Fresh Post in Lithuania. It is made from Smurfit Kappa’s Twin Kraft Solid Board- a paper-based mono-material specifically designed for food packaging. It is capable of absorbing mineral oils, while protecting the aroma and taste of the food, said the company press release.

Arco Berkenbosch, VP of Innovation and Development, Smurfit Kappa noted that the company is delighted to work with Juozas on the creation of this innovative and sustainable packaging solution for Fresh Post. A switch to paper-based material like Twin Kraft Solid Board by all takeaway food providers would create a significant impact, he added.

Smurfit Kappa’s Twin Kraft Board won a Packaging Innovation Award in the 2021 RISI PPI Awards and a Pro Carton Innovation Award in 2020.
