As per latest reports, the transportation network has started returning to normal operating levels.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Vancouver, B.C.-based Canfor Pulp Products Inc. announced its decision to extend the production outage at one of the production lines at its Northwood Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) Pulp mill located in Prince George, B.C. The outage is towards rebuilding the lower furnace of one of the recovery boilers, so as to ensure safe and reliable boiler operations at the mill facility.

The extended downtime is estimated at around 85 to 100 days. The downtime will cost the company approximately $30 million in capital costs and even higher maintenance costs, in addition to reduction in NBSK pulkp production to the extent of 68,000 to 80,000 tonnes. Meantime, the company will continue to operate the second production line at the mill, said the press release.
The company had earlier announced temporary production curtailments to NBSK production at the Northwood Pulp mill for a period of two weeks in early December this year, in response to acute transportation disruptions. The province had seen substantial impacts of extreme rainfall and flooding on rail and highway networks. As per latest reports, the transportation network has started returning to normal operating levels.
