Ferrous Scrap Imports by World Countries Recorded Notable Surge
The top three import sources were the U.S., the EU and the CIS countries.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The most recent data published by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD) indicates notable surge during the initial nine-month period of the current year. The imports totalled around 18.9 million tons in Jan-Sep ’21, registering a growth of 16.6% over the previous year. The top three import sources were the U.S., the EU and the CIS countries.
According to statistics published by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country imported around 326,600 tons of scrap in September this year. Although the imports were up by 71.5% from the prior month, it recorded year-on-year decline by 38%. The cumulative imports during July-Sep ’21 amounted to around 875,300 tons.
Vietnam imported around 406,000 tons of ferrous scrap in September, higher by 10.1% over the previous month, said statistics by Vietnam Customs. The U.S. supplied around 161,500 tons of scrap to Vietnam, thus emerging as the largest source of imports. In second place was Japan with 81,300 tons. The country imported around 4.9 million tons of scrap during the period from January to September this year.
Meantime, Brazil’s scrap imports recorded month-on-month increase by 43.3% to total roughly 3,100 tons in September 2021. The cumulative imports till September this year totalled around 206,400 tons.
