Liberty Steel UK Resumed Operations at Rotherham EAF Mill

According to press release, the operations will run from 11 PM to 6 AM, when energy costs are comparatively lower.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Liberty Steel UK announced that it has restarted production at its GREENSTEEL Rotherham electric arc furnace. The restart of operations has been scheduled to take place during night time, in order to maximize efficiency and reduce energy costs. According to press release, the operations will run from 11 PM to 6 AM, when energy costs are comparatively lower.

The restart follows a recent £50mn funding from the parent company, GFG Alliance, as part of its restructuring and transformation programme. The company plans to reach a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per month at the earliest. It plans to expand the plant’s long-term capacity, so as to ultimately create at least a two million tonnes per annum of steel.
