New Audit Report Unveils World's Topmost Plastic Polluters

All the above three companies were listed as major contributors to climate crisis and plastic pollution crisis, said the report.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Brand Audit Report 2021 by Break Free From Plastic named Coca-Cola and PepsiCo as the world’s topmost plastic polluters. This is the fourth consecutive year that the bottling majors have topped the list. Also, Unilever ranked third in the list of world’s worst plastic polluters.

The beach cleanups in over 45 countries collected nearly 20,000 Coca-Cola branded products. The number exceeds the combined total generated by the second and third worst polluters. This indicates that the commitments by Coca-Cola have had very little impacts on the company’s plastic footprint.

PepsiCo featured in the list for the third consecutive year. It must be noted that the company had recently committed to reduce the use of virgin plastic by 50% by 2030. Also, for the first time, Unilever rose to the position of third top polluter.

All the above three companies were listed as major contributors to climate crisis and plastic pollution crisis, said the report.

The Brand Audit Report 2020 sheds light on how the plastic industry is fueling the climate crisis, just ahead of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) to be held in Glasgow. It warned that the top plastic polluting corporations continue to pump out harmful single-use plastic packaging contrary to their claims.
