DS Smith's New Recycling Pilot Scheme Is a Huge Success

The initiative also offers educational materials that provide additional information about the circular economy.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Young Recyclers recycling pilot scheme by DS Smith, in partnership with five primary schools across Kent City Council in the UK, has been touted as a huge success. The scheme witnessed increased participation by school children between the ages of 3 and 11.

DS Smith supplied the schools with Zero Hero recycling boxes, to which the students could drop cardboard from their homes. Once in every week, DS Smith will collect the dropped materials, transport them to its Kemsley, Kent facility, where they will be used to make new packaging. The initiative also offers educational materials that provide additional information about the circular economy.

Commenting on the success, Stephanie Dalton, Innovation Manager, DS Smith noted that aims to lead the way towards a more circular economy by educating and engaging the industry, people and the next generation. The pilot scheme ensures participation of children and proves how little steps could make a big difference. DS Smith will evaluate the possibilities of rolling out the scheme across the nation, Dalton added.

It must be noted that DS Smith invests in similar pilots in support of recycling of e-commerce packaging.
