DS Smith Propels Litter Collection Drive on World Clean Up Day

The campaign was part of its Now and Next sustainability strategy, which commits to create a waste-free world.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DS Smith plc. international sites extended support to annual World Clean Up Day events organized by Let’s Do It World. Millions of volunteers from as many as 180 countries joined hands in their efforts to clean up the planet.

Over 300 DS Smith volunteers from all of its divisions spread across 17 different countries participated in litter picks at parks, beaches, forests, city centres, canals and industrial estates. The volunteers collected over 4.5 tonnes of litter. These efforts by the volunteers helped in ensuring a cleaner and greener environment. The campaign was part of its Now and Next sustainability strategy, which commits to create a waste-free world.

Wouter van Tol, Head of Government, Community Affairs and Sustainability at DS Smith thanked employees for giving up their time in support of World Cleanup Day to pick up litter and improve their local environment. The initiative was in support of local people and businesses. Furthermore, it demonstrated DS Smith’s commitment to protect the natural world and embed the circular economy in all of its activities, he added.

DS Smith aims to manufacture 100% reusable ore recyclable packaging by 2023. By 2030, it targets to have all of its packaging to be recycled or reused. Also, it has committed to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
