GFG Alliance Aluminum Division to Boost Casting Capacity

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Alvance Aluminum, a business unit of UK-based GFG Alliance has obtained regulatory approval from the Highland Council to add aluminum casting and recycling capacity next to the Lochaber Smelter near Fort William, Scotland. The casting factory will use recycled materials, along with metal from the smelter.
Earlier, GFG Alliance had planned to build an alnminum wheel factory at the site. However, the company dropped the idea, following bleak prospects for auto assembly sector, in connection with Brexit plans. It must be noted that car manufacturing sector had witnessed significant decline during that time.

In 2020, GFG Alliance had announced plans to add 40,000 metric tons per annum secondary aluminum production plant at the site, thereby doubling the aluminum production. It targets to produce up to 100,000 tonnes of billets, which will be mainly used by the domestic construction sector.
Brian King, President, Alvance welcomed the Highland Council’s decision and said that the focus will now be on studying and fulfilling the various planning conditions associated with the consent. The new capacity addition will not only secure the existing jobs, but will also create new jobs. The full operations are expected by 2024, he added.
