New PET Recycling Facility Comes Up In Indonesia
According to company press release, the plant is expected to open in 2023.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Thailand-headquartered Indorama Ventures Public Co. Ltd (IVL) announced plans to construct a new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling plant in Indonesia. The plant, to be built in Karawang, will have capacity to recycle nearly 2 billion plastic bottles per annum.
The plant is being established in support of the Indonesian government’s initiative to cut ocean plastic waste. Incidentally, the ‘National Plan of Action on Marine Plastic Debris’ announced by the Indonesian government aims to reduce its ocean plastic debris by 70% by 2025, compared to 2017 levels.

According to company press release, the plant is expected to open in 2023. It will provide direct employment to nearly 220 people, in addition to hundreds of indirect jobs. The post consumer bottles will be washed and shredded at the facility to produce PET flake feedstock, which in turn will be used to produce recycled resin.
Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment of the Republic of Indonesia appreciated IVL’s efforts to support the government’s initiative to fight against plastic waste. He invited more investors in support of the initiative.
IVL currently has six facilities across Indonesia. The new Karawang PET recycling facility brings a circular business model to IVL’s operation in the country. It supports IVL’s shared goal of closed-loop solutions and clean oceans.
