Smurfit Kappa Unveiled New e-Commerce Packaging Lab Facility
The packaging solutions will be put into production only after certification.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa- Europe’s leading corrugated packaging company announced opening of laboratory facility at its new e-Commerce packaging plant in Northampton, UK. The lab is certified by the International Safe Transfer Association (ISTA), as required by e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Alibaba or eBay.
The opening of the lab expands Smurfit Kappa’s network of packaging testing labs and centres. The lab will support retailers and producers to develop, test and launch innovative e-commerce packaging solutions. The team of experts will work with customers on new packaging solutions, the prototype designs of which are then rigorously tested to meet specified certification standards. The packaging solutions will be put into production only after certification.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Eddie Fellows, CEO UK & Ireland-Smurfit Kappa said that the lab is an ideal environment to work with customers in developing new packaging in real time. It will boost production of innovative and sustainable packaging solutions to meet growing demand from online sales, he added.
The Northampton facility also comprises an Experience Centre, which offers latest insights and first-hand experience on innovations in packaging, with the help of state-of-the-art technologies and tools.
