SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa- Europe’s leading corrugated packaging company announced its decision to invest €11.5 million in its Zülpich paper mill in Germany. The multi-million euro investment is aimed at funding a fuel conversion project at the mill, which in turn will lead to significant reduction in carbon emissions.
The investment will be primarily used to redesign the boiler unit of the mill. It will replace the energy source from coal to an integrated steam-reuse mechanism, thereby providing more sustainable source of fuel. The boiler will be ready for use after redesigning by the middle of next year.
