List of Topmost Copper Producers of 2020
In second place was the Collahuasi copper mine in northern Chile.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The list of topmost copper producers of 2020 were released by mining.com.
The topmost producer in the world during the previous year was Escondida mine, located in the arid northern Atacama Desert in Chile. The mine complex, owned jointly by BHP, Rio Tinto, Mitsubhishi and JX Nippon, produced 1,173 kt of copper in 2020. This compares with production, which had totalled 1,157 kt in 2019.
In second place was the Collahuasi copper mine in northern Chile. The mine, commissioned in 1999, reported annual copper production of 629 kt, compared to 565 kt during the year before that. As per the latest mine plan, the mine is said to have life up to 2070. Meantime, the Morenci open pit mining complex in Greenlee County, Arizona finished third in the list, producing 450 kt in 2020. It must be noted that the mine had produced 460 kt in 2019.

The other copper mines in the top-ten list along with their production in kt are as follows: El Teniente, Chile (443), Buenavista, Mexico (432), KGHM Polska Miedz, Poland (413), Chuquicamata, Chile (401), Cerro Verde, Peru (391), Antamina, Peru (367) and Grasberg, Indonesia (367).
It must be noted that Los Pelambres mine near Santiago, Chile and the Polar Division mine complex located in the Taimyr Peninsula have failed to feature in the top ten list in 2020.
