SDI Provided Strategic Update on Flat Roll Steel Operations
These new lines will provide Sinton with diversification and higher-margin product capabilities.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) announced strategic update with regards to its flat roll steel operations.
According to the company, it is excited about the progress being made at its Sinton Texas EAF Flat Roll Steel Mill. The mill is expected to begin production in late summer 2021. It now plans to construct two more value-added flat roll coating lines, which will be located in the Southern U.S. These new lines will provide Sinton with diversification and higher-margin product capabilities.
SDI will invest approximately $225 million in the two new flat roll steel coating lines. The lines will comprise of a 300,000-ton flat roll galvanizing line with Galvalume coating capability and a 240,000-ton paint line. The site is yet to be finalized. The coating lines are expected to begin production in the second half of 2022.
Mark D. Millett, President and Chief Executive Officer, SDI announced that it also plans to construct two more value-added flat roll coating lines to be located in the Midwest U.S. The lines, to be built at an investment of between $175 million and $200 million, will support its regional flat roll steel operations. These lines too are expected to begin production in H2 2022.
