JSW Steel Completed Upgrades at Mingo Junction Mill
The facility had idled production in end-April towards installation of new automation systems.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): JSW Steel USA announced that it has completed upgrades at the Mingo Junction, Ohio mill. The upgraded electric arc furnace (EAF) at the mill will restart production today. The upgrades will allow the Ohio mill to produce 12-inch slabs, which will primarily be supplied to the company’s pipe and plate mill subsidiary in Baytown, Texas.
It was in July 2020 that the company announced its decision to idle its electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mill in Mingo Junction, Ohio, mainly on account of falling demand and the need to upgrade the equipment. The upgrade included removal of the existing 1.5 mtpa EAF and replacement of the same with new Tenova Consteel EAF.
The mill had produced around 73,000 metric tonnes of hot rolled coils in the initial quarter of 2020, the latest full quarter for which production results are available. The facility had idled production in end-April towards installation of new automation systems.
