JSW Steel USA to Ramp Up Mingo Junction and Baytown Mills

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Jindal Steel Works (JSW) plans to bring back steel operations at Mingo Junction, Ohio and Baytown, Texas to full potential. The revitalization plan was announced by Mark Bush, CEO, JSW Steel USA.

The India-based steel conglomerate plans to make the U.S. operations successful. It aims to improve the current operations. In addition, it also proposes to expand its North American footprints.

In the Mingo Junction mill, all of the replaced equipment has been removed. The site preparations towards installation of new equipment are currently underway. The company hopes to receive new equipment in the month of November. The assembling of the equipment is scheduled for December, so as to ensure start-up of the facility in the first quarter of 2021, said Bush.

The startup of the Mingo Junction facility will guarantee smooth supply of slab grades for Baytown mill to process. The shipment of slabs is expected to commence in early second quarter of 2021. The Baytown mill already has stock of slabs to be processed.

Bush also noted that the company is looking to revitalize its internal logistics, so as to ensure participation in all modes of delivery of scrap. It is not concerned about availability of scrap for its needs, but admitted that there will be growing competition from existing as well as newly coming up steel mills in the region.
