Leading Industry Groups Celebrate Major Milestones with Battery Recycling
The battery collection by Call2Recycle partners has increased substantially by 77% from 2019 to 3.2 million pounds.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Several industry groups and programs declared important milestones achieved by them in connection with battery recycling and recovery. The announcements came on the heels of National Battery Day celebrations on February 18th.
Call2Recycle- the Atlanta-based battery stewardship and recycling program announced that it recovered 8.4 million pounds of batteries through its network of collection partners and stewards during the previous year. This is higher by 11% when compared with the recovery levels in 2019.

Although there were concerns that battery recycling levels could post a decline in 2020 due to Covid-19, the consumer recycling trends remained unaffected during the year, it noted. However, recyclable battery collections by Call2Recycle recorded approximately 10% decline from 2019.
The battery collection by Call2Recycle partners has increased substantially by 77% from 2019 to 3.2 million pounds. The retailers contributed over 2.3 million pounds, followed by battery manufacturers with 1.8 million pounds.
The Milwaukee-based The Responsible Battery Coalition (RBC) also celebrated its 2M Battery Challenge initiative during the National Battery Day. The initiative aims to recover and recycle 1% of lead-acid batteries that are not currently recovered.
