Interfor to Acquire WestRock’s Summerville Sawmill

Upon completion of the transaction, Interfor’s total lumber production capacity is expected to touch 3.2 billion board feet per annum.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Interfor Corporation announced that it has reached an agreement with WestRock Company towards acquisition of the latter’s sawmill located in Summerville, South Carolina. The Summerville Mill acquisition deal has been finalized for a cash consideration of $59 million. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to come to a close during the initial quarter this year.

Alongside, Interfor has also entered into a long-term supply agreement for chips and biomass with WestRock’s Charleston, South Carolina paper mill.

Upon completion of the transaction, Interfor’s total lumber production capacity is expected to touch 3.2 billion board feet per annum. Also, the capacity of U.S. South mills will increase to 1.7 billion board feet, equivalent to 55% of the proforma capacity.

Commenting on the transaction, Ian Fillinger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Interfor noted that the transaction is a logical tuck-in with its existing US South platform. Furthermore, it reiterates the company’s commitment to disciplined growth and investment in the US South. He welcomed Summerville employees to Interfor and hoped that the partnership will help to grow its business.

The Summerville mill is strategically located in the proximity of Interfor’s Georgetown, South Carolina mill and Meldrim, Georgia mill.
