SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Interfor Corporation announced that it has reached an agreement with Hullet, Wyoming-based Neiman Enterprises Inc. towards sale of its specialty sawmill located in Gilchrist, Oregon. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in last quarter this year. Meantime, Interfor announced that it will continue to operate its three stud mills located in the U.S. Northwest region.
The third generation family business plans to restart the mill in the near future. This will lead to rehiring of majority of the furloughed sawmill workers. It must be noted that the sawmill operations were curtailed since mid-June this year, due to adverse impacts of Covid-19 related economic turmoil. The mill had employed approximately 150 employees and had been producing nearly 80 million board feet of lumber per annum.
